Dr Samuel Pfeifer Swiss Psychiatrist
I really like your wholistic approach, combining psychiatric knowledge with counseling AND with every day life. The applicability to various settings and cultures is a real strength of your approach. What I like in didactics are the creative acronyms and illustrations, which are easy to memorize and to apply to a process. Moreover I like your very personal approach in the introduction as well as the concept of “flexible structure “. Also the emphasis on continuous learning seems to be very helpful. The basic structure of Connecting, Understanding, Responding and Engaging Help seems to encompass the major areas of functioning both in growing in our spiritual and personal life as well as in our relationships. So I am not surprised that the book has such a good international resonance! As a psychiatrist who has also to work with patients who are not Christians, I appreciated you extensive disclaimer at the start which sums up some of the limitations. But all in all, this book certainly will reach many Christians in their church life as well as in their personal life. Great approach!
The thing that excites me the most is how the framework gives such a wholistic and solid understanding of man. The body of Christ needs this.
